1973  Release of U.S. POWs from the Vietnam War by North Vietnam begins with 142 men. The first prisoner to step on to the welcoming red carpet was Navy Capt. Jeremiah A. Denton, the ranking office on the first plane of returnees. He had been in captivity for more than 8 years.

2002  Yugoslavian president Slobodan Milosevic goes on trial for genocide and war crimes in Bosnia, Kosovo and Croatia. He ultimately died in his prison cell from a heart attack on March 11, 2006.
